TL;DR — The key differences

Databox — where it falls short
3 Data sources Then $7/mo each on Pro
$0 SQL support No-code metrics builder only
$0 White-label Paid add-on at every tier
Gone Free plan Discontinued July 2025
  • Unlimited data sources Databox limits you to 3 data sources on Professional ($199/month) and Growth ($499/month), with extra sources at $7/month each. DashboardFox includes unlimited data connections in every plan.
  • SQL query support Databox connects to databases on Growth+ plans, but there's no way to write SQL queries. DashboardFox is built on SQL — write queries, use stored procedures, or use the no-code semantic layer.
  • Row-level security included Databox doesn't offer row-level security. DashboardFox includes Data Tags and dynamic RLS in every plan.
  • Lower entry price Databox Professional starts at $199/month ($159 annual). DashboardFox starts at $99/month with more features included.
  • White-label included Custom domains and full branding control in every DashboardFox plan. Databox offers limited customization — white-label branding is a paid add-on.

Which one is right for you?

We're not going to pretend we're better in every scenario.

Choose DashboardFox if:

  • You need more than 3 data sources without per-source fees
  • You want to write SQL queries, use stored procedures, or build a semantic layer
  • You need row-level security for multi-tenant or client-facing analytics
  • You've outgrown marketing-focused templates and need deeper analytics
  • You want white-label dashboards with custom domains included in every plan
  • You need a display mode for office TVs with secure auto-refresh

Choose Databox if:

  • You're a marketing team that needs quick dashboards from Google Ads, HubSpot, Facebook, etc.
  • You want pre-built templates that work out of the box for common marketing metrics
  • You have 3 or fewer data sources and don't need to write SQL queries
  • You value goal tracking, benchmarking against industry peers, and AI-generated performance summaries
  • You need unlimited users included in every plan — no per-seat fees
  • Speed of setup matters more than analytics depth

Per-source fees add up fast

A company connecting 8 data sources — CRM, marketing, support, databases — that needs white-label and security.

DashboardFox

Starter Plan

$99
/month — unlimited data sources, white-label included
  • ✓ 8 data connections (or 80) — no extra fees
  • ✓ SQL queries and stored procedures
  • ✓ Row-level security included
  • ✓ White-label and custom domain included
Databox

Professional + extra sources

$234
/month — 3 included + 5 extra × $7 ($187/mo if billed annually)
  • ✗ 3 data sources included, 5 more at $7/each ($5.60 annual)
  • ✗ No SQL query support — no-code metrics builder only
  • ✗ No row-level security
  • ✗ White-label branding is a paid add-on
  • ✓ Unlimited users included

$99/month vs $234/month ($187 if Databox is billed annually). And that gap grows with every additional data source. Databox's Growth tier ($499/month, $399 annual) adds database connections and AI features but still only includes 3 data sources. Their Premium plan ($799/month annual) includes 100 sources but costs more than 8× DashboardFox's entry price.

Not sure we're the right fit? Before you decide, here's where we fall short for some teams. See the full breakdown →

  • No pre-built SaaS or marketing connectors — Databox's strength is 70+ pre-built connectors for Google Analytics, Facebook Ads, HubSpot, and Salesforce. We're a SQL database tool; any SaaS data needs developer credentials and OAuth2 configuration.
  • Mobile experience is being rebuilt — if mobile-first dashboards are a primary use case, we're not there yet.

The bottom line

Databox is purpose-built for marketing and performance teams. If you need quick dashboards pulling from Google Ads, HubSpot, and Facebook with pre-built templates, goal tracking, benchmarking against industry peers, and AI-generated performance summaries — and you have 3 or fewer data sources — it gets you up and running fast. The 130+ connectors, template library, unlimited users, and forecasting features are genuine strengths.

But if you're connecting more than a few sources, need SQL for custom analysis, want row-level security for clients, or need white-label dashboards with custom domains — you've hit the edges of what Databox is designed for. DashboardFox gives you unlimited data sources, full SQL support, and enterprise security features starting at $99/month — less than a third of Databox's entry price.

Common questions

Databox discontinued its free plan on July 1, 2025. They now offer a 14-day trial of the Growth plan (no credit card required), after which their paid entry point is $199/month (Professional) or $159/month billed annually. DashboardFox starts at $99/month with unlimited data sources, or you can try our Early Access trial with full features and no credit card required.
Yes — on Growth plans and above ($499/month, $399 annual), Databox connects to databases and warehouses like BigQuery and MySQL. But you can't write SQL queries directly. Databox provides a no-code metrics builder for pulling data from those sources. DashboardFox lets you write raw SQL, call stored procedures, and build semantic layers on top of your database — which gives you far more control over complex queries and transformations.
It depends on where your data lives. If your marketing data flows into a database or data warehouse, DashboardFox connects directly and you build new dashboards on that data. If you rely entirely on Databox's direct SaaS connectors (pulling from Google Ads, HubSpot, etc. without a warehouse), you'll need to set up a data pipeline to a database first. That's a one-time setup, but it's an extra step.
Not in the same way Databox does. Databox has pre-built templates for common marketing metrics that work out of the box with their 130+ SaaS connectors. DashboardFox is database-first — you build dashboards from your data, which gives you more flexibility but requires more initial setup. If pre-built marketing templates are your primary need, Databox has a clear edge there.
Not yet — and we're deliberate about that. We watched the first wave of "AI BI" produce hallucinated column names and misread data models. We're getting our core semantic layer right first. AI is next on our roadmap: query building in plain language, visualization suggestions, and analysis on your outputs. Model-agnostic — we're not locking into one provider. We'll ship it when it actually works, not when it makes a good headline.
Yes — if your marketing data lands in a database or warehouse. Many companies use tools like Fivetran, Airbyte, or Stitch to sync marketing data (Google Ads, HubSpot, Facebook) into a data warehouse. Once it's there, DashboardFox can query it alongside your operational data, giving you a unified view across marketing and business data with full SQL control.
That's a fair advantage for teams with many viewers. Databox includes unlimited users on all paid plans — everyone can see dashboards at no extra cost. DashboardFox charges by monthly active users (MAU), which is better for teams with occasional users but can cost more if you have a lot of regular viewers. If your primary need is broadcasting dashboards to a large team with view-only access, factor the per-user difference into your comparison.
